I was curious so I looked it up and found a line that sounded familiar from a commercial!

Not "Sleep Breaking"... "Breaking dormancy."
Apparently breaking dormancy is the key to cherry blossoms blooming!

"Cherry blossom buds form in the previous summer and go into a dormant state from autumn to winter.
To break dormancy and awaken, a certain period of low temperatures of around 0 to 10°C is required. In the case of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, from October onwards they need to be exposed to temperatures below 8°C for around 800 to 1,000 hours.
After breaking dormancy, the flower buds will grow and bloom as the temperature rises.
Higher temperatures in early spring will cause the plant to flower earlier, but a warm winter will slow down the plant's breaking of dormancy and growth.
If autumn and winter are warm, the cherry blossom buds will not be able to break dormancy properly and will remain in a sleepy state. If this continues, flowering may be delayed even if the temperature is high in early spring.
