  • Sleepy Sakura🌸

    2024/4/13

Even though it was said to be a "warm winter," why did the cherry blossoms bloom late this year?
I was curious so I looked it up and found a line that sounded familiar from a commercial!

    Not "Sleep Breaking"... "Breaking dormancy."
Apparently breaking dormancy is the key to cherry blossoms blooming!

"Cherry blossom buds form in the previous summer and go into a dormant state from autumn to winter.
To break dormancy and awaken, a certain period of low temperatures of around 0 to 10°C is required. In the case of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, from October onwards they need to be exposed to temperatures below 8°C for around 800 to 1,000 hours.
After breaking dormancy, the flower buds will grow and bloom as the temperature rises.
Higher temperatures in early spring will cause the plant to flower earlier, but a warm winter will slow down the plant's breaking of dormancy and growth.
If autumn and winter are warm, the cherry blossom buds will not be able to break dormancy properly and will remain in a sleepy state. If this continues, flowering may be delayed even if the temperature is high in early spring.

In other words, cherry blossom buds go dormant and stop growing before winter, but then the harsh cold of winter wakes them up again (breaks dormancy), and they begin to grow again with the warmth of spring."

This year's cherry blossoms have been blooming because it was warm from autumn to winter, so the flower buds that were formed in summer became dazed and their growth was delayed, and then, just when they were about to bloom, it suddenly got cold! It feels like that...
When you think about it that way, it's cute and makes you chuckle.

*In addition to the above, this year the unexpectedly low temperatures just before flowering in March also seemed to have had an impact.
  • Is the Empress on the right? left?

    2024/2/15

When I visited Fenice Sacay the other day, I stopped in my tracks when I saw the hina dolls.
"picture? Are the Dairi-sama and Hina dolls in reverse order? "

    That's right!
The hina dolls at home have the Imperial Palace on the left and the Hina dolls on the right, but at Fenice Sacay, the arrangement was reversed.
I was curious and looked into it.

According to Tenpoudou Co., Ltd. materials...

In ancient Japanese culture, men were supposed to be on the right, and women on the left.
It's the same as Fenice Sacay.
This arrangement is influenced by the idea of ``Yin-Yang theory.''

The theory of yin and yang considers all substances and phenomena in the world to be composed of two qi, yin and yang, and classifies all things into yin and yang depending on which qi appears more strongly.
For example, the sun is yang, the moon is yin, the sky is yang, and the earth is yin.
The "left and right" and "male and female" issues discussed here are classified as follows.

    attribute:Yang sex:Man direction:left
    attribute:shadow sex:woman direction:right

When arranging things, match the attributes of Yin and Yang.
Speaking of left and right, the Yin-Yang theory believes that it is natural to place things belonging to ``yang'' on the left and ``yin'' on the right.
Therefore, when arranging men and women, men belong to ``yang'' and women belong to ``yin,'' so the yin and yang correspond to each other, with the man on the left and the woman on the right.

*However, this is the left and right as seen from you, so when viewed from another person, the left and right will be reversed.
    In other words…

【Yang】Left (facing the right), male “Yin” right (facing the left), female
    That's what it means.

This arrangement is called Kyo-bina, and it is still popular in the Kansai region, mainly in Kyoto.
In many other regions, Kanto Hina, male hina on the left, and female hina on the right, are the mainstream, and it is said to have spread around Tokyo from the early Showa period.

Which hina dolls do you have at home?

  • Times were borderless, but zoni was not borderless...

    2024/1/6

How did you spend New Year's?
    Did you eat the zoni?
I was surprised to hear that in Kagawa, they add red bean paste mochi to their miso flavor!
I was curious to see if there were any other rare zoni, so I looked into it.

We would like to introduce the results of the ``I want to try zoni ranking'' conducted on a ranking site called ``Ranking''.
By the way, the ingredients often included in zoni include chicken, carrots, dried shiitake mushrooms, kamaboko, daikon radish, Chinese cabbage, taro, baked tofu, etc.

    rank/Zoni name/region/Types of mochi (square mochi =□rice cake,Round mochi=〇rice cake)/Characteristics
1st place Chicken Zoni (Hokkaido)… Baked □Mochi/Sweet with chicken bones and sugar and soy sauce
2nd place: Parent and child zoni (Niigata)… Baked □Mochi/For parents and children, with salted salmon and salmon roe
3rd place: Oyster zoni (Hiroshima)… Boiled mochi/oyster production is the highest in Japan
4th place An mochi zoni (Kagawa)… bean paste〇Mochi/Anmaru mochi made with white miso
5th place: Shrimp zoni (Toyama)… Boiled □Mochi/Shrimp with soup stock and shrimp with large head
6th place: White miso zoni (Kyoto)… Boiled 〇Mochi/White miso style, all ingredients are round

10th place Kinako Zoni (Nara)… Roasted 〇Mochi/Take out the mochi from the white miso zoni and eat it by dipping it in soybean flour.
    【Quote:Ranking - https://rankingoo.net/articles/local/01711a ]

Just looking at the name alone piques my interest.

As I researched zoni, I wondered if there was a line between square mochi and round mochi in the Japanese archipelago, so I looked into this as well.
The shape is different between the eastern and western sides of Japan, and the boundary between them is around Sekigahara in Gifu Prefecture.Square mochi is common in prefectures east of Sekigahara, and round mochi is common in prefectures west of Sekigahara. In the five prefectures of Gifu, Ishikawa, Fukui, Mie, and Wakayama, which are located exactly on the border, there are places where both square and round types are used.
【Quote:Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries https://www.maff.go.jp/j/pr/aff/2001/spe2_02.html ]

The Japanese archipelago is long and long, and many things seem to be divided into east and west.

Which zoni would you like to eat?
I'll have to wait until next year's New Year(bitter smile)

Japan's precision capsule toys are popular with people overseas, and there is a corner set up at Narita Airport where you can use up your leftover coins. Some people also take them home as souvenirs.
Just as capsule toys and crane games, which I also love, have made their way into the world, I think that day will soon come for capsule toys as well.
  • Let's play smart USJ!

    2023/11/8

For the first time in 10 years, I went to USJ, which is in the third stage from the top of the USJ congestion calendar (88 PT) and is "quite crowded".(Of course, same-day ticket sales are canceled.)

When we arrived before the gates opened at 8:00, there were already many guests riding the attractions and enjoying themselves...
I was wondering, "Huh? What time does the gate open?" Apparently, there's a system called "Early Park In" that allows you to enter nearly an hour before the gates normally open.I didn't know~

Immediately after entering the venue, I reserved a ticket for the extremely popular "Super Nintendo World," but I was only able to get one at 6:10 p.m.
While getting a numbered ticket, I ran, ran, ran to the "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" - waiting time of 120 minutes.
It didn't feel that long as we waited inside the castle while enjoying the video.
The ride was more intense than I expected, the visuals were good, and it was so much fun that it felt like I was flying through the sky with Harry.
Harry's stick was expensive at over ¥5000 so I gave up.(tears)

Next, let’s dash to “The Flying Dinosaur”! Waiting time here is 120 minutes.
However, what was even more painful than the waiting time was the fact that we stood in line for a long time under the scorching sun, and the weather was unbelievable for November.
If you want to experience maximum fear, we recommend riding on the outermost side.
G was amazing too, but I felt like I was going to be blown away on the curve.(LOL)

After conquering both attractions, it was already noon.
Long lines at restaurants... I have no choice but to give up and line up on the wagon... The lines are long there too.
By the way, did you know that there is an express pass that includes priority restaurant information?
Tickets give you priority access to restaurants, and of course, meal fees are not included.
    Everything is express.

After lunch, we saw a parade and everyone jumped and danced with Mario and his friends.

After lining up for 2 attractions for 120 minutes in a row, I got really tired, so next time I went to ``Water World,'' where you can sit and relax and watch a lot of attractions at once.
I went to see it a long time ago, but I was still satisfied with the way the water spray and flames rose even more than the creation.
Guests in the front row had buckets of water thrown over their heads.

There was still time until Super Nintendo World at 6:10pm, so I took a nap at a restaurant where I managed to find a seat to rest my tired body.
Charge up your energy and let’s go Mario!
As soon as I got inside, I thought I would be able to ride Mario Kart, which was my main objective this time, but the numbered ticket for 18:10 was just an "area admission numbered ticket" and it was a different attraction.
Anyway, once I entered the area, I didn't pay attention to the Mario world around me and headed straight for the Mario Kart attraction... Still waiting time of 100 minutes.
There were some troubles along the way, such as a temporary stop due to safety checks, and we ended up waiting in line for nearly 120 minutes before finally getting into the cart.It was fun to experience the game world with Mario and Princess Peach while throwing shells and repelling enemies.

When we returned to the park, we encountered a rampaging zombie named ``Chainsaw Chain Gang'' with a chainsaw in hand.
I completely forgot that it was Halloween Horror Nights 2023.
It was a very fun and tiring 12 hours.(bitter smile)

    【Lesson】
On days when crowds are expected, we recommend purchasing tickets and Express Passes in advance.
Express passes are also as expensive as tickets, but they are worth the time and fatigue.
Don't forget to purchase your tickets in a way that does not involve exchanging or exchanging them at the ticket booth on the day of admission!
*Express passes for this day were sold out.
  • 1 question and 1 answer for "Whale shark"

    2023/10/26

Recently, I saw a video on social media of a human swimming with a whale shark.I was nervous as I watched, hoping to get sucked into that big mouth.(cold sweat)

Come to think of it, there is an aquarium with whale sharks in Osaka, but I thought I didn't know much about it, so I decided to do a little research on whale sharks.
We will share the results in a Q&A format!

① What is the origin of the name?
The back of its body is gray with white spots, and the pattern resembles a Jinbei haori.

②What kind of creature is it?
The largest species of fish in the world, with a body length of about 20 meters and a weight of about 20 tons!

③What is the classification? Shark family?
    1 genus 1 species
Technically, it is a type of whale shark, and there is only one of it.

    ④What do you eat?
    plankton,seaweed,small fish…
Approximately 300 to 350 fine teeth grow in a row.
They suck seawater into their mouths and separate the water from the food using organs that filter out only food and microscopic organisms.

    ⑤Where are you?
Migratory fish that migrate around the world's oceans!
They migrate to the waters around Japan from early summer to autumn, and are often seen in Izu, Shikoku, and Okinawa.

⑥Can you see it in Japanese aquariums?
    Kansai is... Osaka Kaiyukan
This is one of the few aquariums in Japan that exhibits whale sharks.

⑦How do you say it in English?
“Whale shark”… Whale means “whale” and Shark means “whale”."shark"
It seems that the name came from the meaning that it is a large shark with a body length similar to that of a whale.

⑧Is there a tour to see whale sharks?
Among the snorkeling marine activity tours in Oslob, Cebu Island, there is a tour to swim with whale sharks.
You can see whale sharks all year round.
If you're not good at being under the sea, don't worry, you can see it from the boat.

How was it? … There were many things I didn't know.(bitter smile)
Even if I can't make it to Cebu, I think I'll go see the whale sharks at the nearby Kaiyukan.

  • “Danjiri” is not only Kishiwada!

    2023/9/21

When you hear the word "Danjiri", what immediately comes to mind... It's the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival. It is very famous nationwide. But Kishiwada is not the only place to have Danjiri!

Danjiri festivals are held in many places in Sakai as well.
    Atago Shrine,Ishizu Shrine,Otori Taisha Shrine,Hibe Shrine,Sakurai Shrine,Suearata Shrine,Sugao Shrine,Tajisuhime Shrine,Tanbi Shrine,Naruo Hachiman Shrine,Nonomiya Shrine,Hagiwara Shrine,Hachida Shrine,Hishiki Shrine,Hirokuni Shrine,Mitaya Shrine,Yasaka Shrine… There are many.

A distinctive feature of Sakai's Danjiri is that they are pulled at night.
Night towing is also done in Kishiwada, but the big difference in Sakai is that it is towed vigorously even at night.
There are many attractions such as the dynamic maneuvers, the gorgeous night-time pulling, and the artistic carvings on the floats. Please enjoy Sakai's Danjiri from various perspectives.

    A quick note here!
Do you know the difference between "Danjiri" and "Mikoshi"?
People tend to think of it as the difference between ``carrying a boat'' and ``pulling a boat,'' but the clear difference is whether or not someone is on board.
The mikoshi is used to pray to the gods for the prosperity of the town, and is the ``vehicle of the gods'' that the gods use temporarily when traveling from the shrine to the Otabisho.Since God is already on top of it, it would be rude for people to ride on top of it, so I won't do it.
Danjiri, also called floats, are floats that are pulled to energize and prosper the town, and people ride on them to entertain the gods.

Sakai's Danjiri festival starts in October. Please take a look.

  • 【Motaku】Daiichi taxi dispatch app

    2023/8/21

What taxi dispatch app do you use?
Um, is it a famous taxi dispatch app on TV?

Actually, I was using the famous taxi dispatch app to look for a taxi the other day, but as time went on, the conditions became more severe, with places to dispatch taxis being limited, and the desired dispatch time disappearing.
So I was looking for another taxi dispatch app... , Isn't there a dispatch app dedicated to "Daiichi Taxi", which is also related to our hotel!
that name as well… "Motaku" is an abbreviation for mobile taxi.

You can order from your current location, order from history, or order directly by phone.
You can also search for charges, and normal charges, charges for high-speed use, late-night charges, etc. will be displayed at once.
Among them, it seems that you can also order a proxy to use when you drink alcohol.
It's an app, but... If you would like to order by phone,
Phone order ➡ Region selection ➡ Sales office selection ➡ ☎ will call the sales office directly.

    <Digression from Taxi Driver>
There are times when the ratio of the number of switchboard operators and the number of waiting taxis does not match, and there are many cases where taxis cannot be dispatched even though there are surplus taxis.
In such a case, it is faster to make a reservation from "Current location order" using "Motaku"!

  • Typhoon names have rules!

    2023/8/11

    It's typhoon season.I don't like it, but...

By the way, did you know that typhoons have names?
It is decided by an intergovernmental international organization called the "Typhoon Committee", which was established in 2000 and consists of 14 countries around the North Pacific and South China Sea.There, 140 typhoon names are decided, and they are assigned in order of occurrence, starting with number 1.After digesting up to number 140, return to square one.By the way, Japan is also a member.
On the other hand, in the United States, names (female names) are given with initials of the alphabet from A to W in order of occurrence.

Now, what are the 140 names?
Animals, fish, imaginary creatures, and names of gods have been proposed, but Japan proposes names associated with constellations. There are 10 pieces of "Coin, Goat, Rabbit, Marlin, Great Crow, Whale, Bear, Compass, Lizard, Wildcat"... so cute.

The "Typhoon No. 0" used in Japan's weather forecasts is based on the Japan Meteorological Agency's designation of the earliest typhoon that occurred after January 1st of each year, and then assigning numbers in order of occurrence. .
So why do people call people by number in Japan?
Typhoons began to be called by number in 1953. Calling them by number rather than by proper nouns has the advantage of making it easier to understand the order of the typhoons when looking back later, and is also useful for surveys and research purposes. It was considered easy to organize because ofIn other words, I called them by number according to the convenience of the Japan Meteorological Agency, which announces typhoon information. They are now entrenched(smile)

Anyway, regardless of the name of the typhoon, I pray that the damage will be small.
  • Can I have my hair repaired at the beauty salon?

    2023/7/26

In general, you tell us your wishes before the treatment, and we ask you to cut, color, perm, etc.
After finishing the whole process, the hairdresser opened a large mirror in both hands and said, "How is it? I think there are many times when people say, "How do you like it?"
In such a case, can you say, "Please fix this like this"?

Even though a professional beautician did the treatment, is it okay for me, an amateur, to intervene...
Isn't this like amateurs adding salt or soy sauce to a dish provided by a professional chef? (Leap too much? LOL)
    Won't the beautician get offended...
Will it be difficult to attend from next time?
Isn't there a lot of people who can't quite say it after thinking about a lot of things?
If you summon up the courage to say it, you may feel that the subsequent treatment is a little rough or that you are being treated inappropriately, and you may regret not saying it.

How do you feel about my hairdresser?
  • An air conditioner that cannot identify the error content without a remote control

    2023/7/11

The air conditioner that I used for 15 years broke down.
An air conditioner whose "timer" button is flickering all the time.
When I pull out the pamphlet and check the error details, it seems that the remote control is operated and the error code is displayed there.

    yes? Unpalatable…

Actually, the genuine remote control broke a few years ago, and I've been using the universal remote control for a long time.
Of course, the universal remote control does not display error codes.
With a glimmer of hope, I put batteries in the genuine remote control and turned it on... Moved!
I wonder if it was revived while I was sleeping for a long time? And the joy is fleeting, but the switch other than "on / off" does not work ... It was broken after all.
When I inquired with the manufacturer, it seems that it is impossible to judge without the error code displayed on the remote control.Since it is an old air conditioner, the remote control is not sold, and even if it was sold, I remember that it cost more than 10,000 yen.
After consulting with the person in charge, I decided to buy a new one this time.
    Sudden high cost!

Next time, I will try to buy a genuine remote control as soon as the remote control breaks.
  • Platform 0

    2023/6/28
The other day, when I was traveling by train, I found "Platform 0"!

Did you know that there is a "Platform 0" on the platform?
There are said to be about 35 locations throughout Japan (I couldn't find the exact number), but there used to be about 100 locations in the past.

Then why was line 0 created?
The platform closest to the stationmaster's office is called Platform 1, and as it gets further away, Platform 2, Platform 3, etc. … and numbering. When it became necessary to create a platform near No. 1 or on the opposite side due to the expansion of the station, it seems that "Platform 0" was created because the number was smaller than 1.

By the way, Kumamoto Station has 3 lines, numbered 0, and they were called ``0A'', ``0B'', and ``0C''.With the construction of the Kyushu Shinkansen, it was no longer elevated due to construction work. It's a little disappointing.
  • A6 size electronic vehicle verification

    2023/6/17
The other day, I sent my car for inspection, but I knew that the vehicle inspection certificate had become as small as A6 size, and the information was recorded on an IC tag, and it was not possible to read the information without a dedicated application installed on a PC or smartphone. rice field?

It's good that the vehicle inspection certificate is smaller and you don't have to fold it anymore, but there must be more than a few people who thought it was an app again.

Even so, if you're worried that the paper will be creased or crumpled, it's safe to put it in an A6 size coin case sold at a 100-yen shop.
  • Super Mario is also popular with foreigners!

    2023/5/31
When I went to Osaka city for the first time in a long time, the number of foreign tourists was increasing more and more, and there were many foreign tourists at the game center.

Capsule toys of Japanese culture "Gachapon" are very popular with foreigners, but now it seems that crane games are also very popular because Super Mario, which is a big hit in the movie, can be obtained with the UFO catcher.
At the game arcade we stopped by, a couple of foreign tourists stood in front of the UFO catcher, screaming together, trying several times to win one Mario Kart.
While watching over from my side, I congratulated them with "Congratulations!"(smile)
After that, I also got two photos!

Actually, I want to say "Choro 〇", but it seems to be called "Pull back car" because it is a registered trademark.
